White Mountains
Sector
New Hampshire's Presidential and Carter ranges generate their own weather, and the notch roads that reach them are the windiest plowed corridors in the northeast. Above treeline the snow is stripped and re-deposited into slabs; below it, sheltered valleys hold some of the deepest snow in the eastern United States.
Pinkham Notch
The eastern gateway to Mount Washington, at 628 m the highest plowed road pass in the region. Everything here drains into either the Ellis or the Peabody river, and the wind is a constant.
Bear Notch Forest Roads
Unplowed logging roads on the west side of the Saco valley, gated in winter but open to foot traffic. Consistently 30-50 cm deeper than the valley floor and rarely tracked.
Deepest base recorded in this sector: 132 cm. Sector centre %.
