Algonquin Park
Sector
Ontario's 7,653 km² interior park, sitting on the transition between Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest and boreal forest. Highway 60 is the only plowed access, which leaves everything beyond it as a genuine winter backcountry. Snow depth on the interior lakes peaks near 90 cm in late February.
Highway 60 Corridor
The plowed strip across the south of the park, with the interpretive trails south of the highway and the access points to the interior lakes north of it. Busiest, best marked, easiest to bail out of.
Moose Forest Access Roads
Unmaintained access roads through lowland black spruce and bog, used by the park in summer and by nobody in winter. Wet ground underneath means thin ice at every creek crossing.
Deepest base recorded in this sector: 93 cm. Sector centre %.
