What is collected, and what you can do about it

This policy explains what caribou.top collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the whole site, in both language versions.

1. What we collect

Server logs

Our web server records the standard request data for every visit: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page if your browser sends one, and the browser user-agent string. We use this to keep the site up, to see which reports are being read, and to detect abuse. Logs are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.

No accounts, no forms that store personal data

This site has no user accounts, no newsletter, and no comment system. The only input on the site is the route search box, which runs in your browser against a static index file and is not sent to us.

Email

If you write to [email protected] or [email protected], we keep the message and your address so we can reply and so we can follow up on a correction. We do not add correspondents to any list.

2. Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies. Cookies may be set by the third parties named below once advertising and analytics are active. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site works without them.

3. Advertising — Google AdSense

This site is supported by advertising and uses Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

4. DoubleClick DART cookie

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve ads on this site. The DART cookie enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google advertising policies page.

5. Analytics

We measure aggregate traffic to see which reports are useful. Any analytics tool we use is configured to record aggregate and anonymised data where the provider supports it. If an analytics property is assigned to this site, its identifier will appear in the page source; if no identifier appears, no analytics code is running.

6. Web fonts

This site loads its two typefaces (Bitter and Rubik) from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those files, Google receives your IP address and user-agent. If you prefer to avoid that request, you can block fonts.googleapis.com in your browser; the site falls back to system serif and sans-serif faces and remains fully readable.

7. Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to:

be informed about how your data is used (this page);
access the personal data we hold about you;
have inaccurate data corrected;
have your data erased;
restrict or object to processing;
data portability;
withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it;
lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

Our legal bases are consent (for advertising and any non-essential cookies) and legitimate interests (for server security, and for keeping the site available). We do not knowingly transfer personal data outside the EEA except through the standard contractual mechanisms used by the processors named on this page. 8. Your rights under the CCPA / CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared or sold; to delete personal information held by a business; to correct inaccurate personal information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners can amount to "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA, and you can opt out of that using the Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info links above, or through the consent message shown on this site. 9. Children

This site is written for adults planning their own trips. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

11. Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes are noted on the page rather than made silently.
